Best Disc Golf Starter Packs

Updated: Jun 13, 2022

So you've decided that you want to take the plunge into the world of disc golf but have just one problem:

You don't own any discs!

Hopefully, a current player has stepped in as a mentor, taken you under their wing, and likely donated a few of their own discs to your cause.

However, if this hasn't happened or you would simply like to try things out on your own, then you cannot go wrong with purchasing a starter pack of discs to get you going.

Why a starter pack?

While there is nothing wrong with heading into your local disc golf shop, sporting good's store, or to your favorite online retailer to find a disc or 2 to start throwing around.

A starter pack is going to give you everything you will need to truly, "get started"!

Most starter packs will include at least one of each type of disc:

  1. A putter

  2. mid-range,

  3. and a driver

Meaning that every facet of your game will be covered until your skills get better and your need for more discs expands.

The other positive is that these starter packs often include time tested models that are fan favorites, extremely user friendly, and easy to throw for beginners.

That means no guess work when walking into a disc golf store and having hundreds of options before you.

Now that you know why a starter pack is the perfect option to get disc golfing,

Let's take a look at our top 7 recommended starter packs!

On the top of our list is the 3 disc starter pack by the reputable and ever popular brand, Discraft. This pack is our top recommendation because not only does it sale for an extremely affordable price, but the quality of discs you will get are second to none!

Interesting enough, Discraft does not specify what discs you receive besides stating "a putter, a mid-range, and a driver", so it may be a surprise.

However, many packs seem to have the following:

the Magnet, a solid putter option by Discraft;

the Buzzz, which is arguably one of the best discs ever made by any company and one you could play an entire course with; and either the Avenger SS or the Heat.

The Avenger SS is an excellent driver for beginners and more advance players alike as it has a speed of 10 but you will not be disappointed with the Heat either as the understable driver is perfect for beginners!

While this starter pack is all you would need, you may want to consider upgrading to the Discraft Deluxe Set

This set will cost you a little bit more but not only will you get 4 discs instead of 3 (an extra driver is included), but you will also receive a Discraft carry bag that is good for holding 6-8 discs for when you expand your collection.

Next on our list is the 3 disc set by Innova. This set made number 2 on our list simply because it is one of the best options out there specifically for beginners.

Those new to the sport will find that these discs are very easy to throw and learn with until your skill level improves.

While being geared towards beginners is one of it's strengths, the downside to this set is that players sometimes feel they outgrow it as they get better and feel the need to upgrade from DX (basic) blends.

You can find Innova's upgraded set that includes their Champion plastic by CLICKING HERE.

As shown in the picture below, most sets will include: the Aviar as a putter, the shark as a mid-range, and the leopard as a driver.

All in all, as a beginner it will be tough to find a better set of discs as easy to throw as these ones for the price that it is sold for. Click on the picture to learn more!

This Premium starter set may cost you a little more up front, but with you'll get some awesome discs picked by MVP. The discs seem to be random, but you will still get a solid putter, mid-range, and driver option that are all beginner friendly in terms of flight rating and weight.
